GBG Design Festival Web Platform

Gothenburg Design Festival is an open platform for collaborative learning that uses artistic processes to reflect upon and experiment with design as an agent of change in the creation of socially sustainable futures.

Annually, HDK, School of Design and Crafts invites the public to explore new ideas about learning, work, and social equality, celebrating design practices for social good through exhibitions, classes, workshops, talks, and the unexpected. Gothenburg Design Festival supports a wide-ranging public discussion of the significance and importance of openness for design, art, crafts, and architecture.

Gothenburg Design Festival required a robust digital platform for presenting all sides of the festival, including ways for audiences to visit and participate in the different activities and exhibitions and methods for the festival producers and design students to showcase works online.

The resulting web platform is a brutalist and frank ode to the grid system, transparent and straightforward design solutions, where the seams and design choices are made visible throughout the web experience. The platform houses opportunities to showcase online exhibitions and artwork with a robust framework of modular building blocks.
